75th Anniversary

As you may be aware, Woore Victory Hall will be celebrating 75 years since the official opening of the present hall on 2 November 1950.
To commemorate the event, we plan to hold an exhibition of the history of the hall, not just since 1950 but from around 1920, when the original wooden hut was erected on the site.
Sadly, much of the paper history has not survived through the numerous changes of trustees over the years, in particular, we have no records covering the early years until 1988, and two or three years are missing from the early 2000s.
So, we have been collating information from local newspapers and local residents, past and present, to mount an exhibition and are pleased to say that this will take place over the weekend of 31st October to 2nd November.

Friday 31st October, the hall will be open from 2pm to 4pm to view the exhibition, and we’ll also be serving teas and coffee, and maybe a pastry too. !

Saturday 1st November, the hours will be 10am – 12 noon, and in the evening we’ll be showing a film from that era.

Sunday 2nd November, the hours will be 2pm – 4pm.

The 75th Anniversary bunting will also be on display for the first time.

Both halls, the old wooden hut and the Victory Hall, were erected as a memorial to those who died serving King and Country and as a tribute to all from the parish who helped to achieve victory in the World Wars, 1914- 18 and 1939-45.
So, we will also be displaying panels from the “Men of Woore” project, highlighting the often short lives of those soldiers commemorated on our war memorial. For the first time, this will also include those who died during WW2.

After our 75th anniversary weekend, the “Men of Woore” panels will move to St Leonard’s Church to be on display for Remembrance Sunday.
