WW1 Afternoon Tea - November 2018

Woore started off its WW1 Commemorations on Sunday 4th November 2018 with a traditional “Afternoon Tea” in the Victory Hall. The Hall was colourfully decorated with union flags and bunting and more than 80 people packed the hall for the event.

As well as enjoying a delicious meal, there was a rousing sing-along of topical tunes and visitors were able to view displays featuring the “Men of Woore” project, researched and put together by Peter Roberts. This shows the history of the local men whose names are inscribed on the Woore War Memorial having died in service during the Great War. The display then returned to St Leonard’s Church until 19th November.

The event was organised by the management committee of Woore Victory Hall ably assisted by the ladies of Woore WI.

The Commemorations continued on Sunday 11th with the traditional Remembrance Day service at St Leonard’s Church and the week after on Saturday 17th, the Film Club showed the 1969 musical “Oh! What a Lovely War”.
